Lucerne Veterinary Hospital

In the Community

As a group, the staff at Lucerne Vet feels it is important to give back
to our community in many ways. For 2010, we donated more than $53,926 of services, time and supplies to various community service causes. At the end of February 2011, we had donated $13,789.

Some of our causes include:

● In February 2009, we held a spay/neuter clinic where more than 20 cats from local shelters were spayed or neutered, vaccinated and dewormed at no cost to the shelter.

● A monthly quota of no-cost spays and neuters for local shelters.

● Lucerne Vet staff donated gifts to "Christmas for Kids" in December 2008.

● "Lucerne Vet Animal Help Fund" is an in-hospital fund established to help pay for non-routine, unexpected care for patients of families in need. This fund is supported by client donations and 100 percent of the proceeds from over-the-counter food sales. Click here to learn more about the food sales program.

● In July 2009, we held a low-cost spay/neuter clinic with 18 cats from a local animal shelter.

● In September 2009, the LVH staff walked as a team in the Race for a Cure, raising more than $1,600.

● All staff members at Lucerne Vet dedicate some of their personal time toward community services of their choice.

● In November 2010, we collected food donations for the annual Mike and Mike food drive for Manna.

LVH patient
The doctors and staff of Lucerne Veterinary Hospital have committed to donating a percentage of our revenue to community service. One way we accomplish this is by spaying and neutering or treating sick or injured shelter animals, which we do on a monthly (or more frequent) basis. All staff members also have made the commitment to donating a percentage of their time to animal or non-animal related community service. Some examples from 2008 include volunteering at Holden School, donating platelets for the local hospitals, taking part in a "spay day" at LVH, and transporting injured birds to a rehab center, among others.

In 2008, $11,853 in care (spays, neuters, hospitalization for treatment of various illnesses) was donated to local shelters. So far in 2009, more than $22,000 has been donated. On one day in February in 2009, our entire staff as well as some Veterinary Technician students from University College of Bangor’s Veterinary Technology Program participated in "spay day," during which we were able to spay/neuter 25 cats, as well as test them for Feline Leukemia and FIV, vaccinate them, treat them for parasites and run any other tests deemed appropriate.

We feel strongly about contributing to the community, as well as helping animals in need. If you would like to help, please click here.
